Course Contents
The Bachelor of Nursing (Advanced Standing) includes the following seven theory and one learner centred learning modules:
- Holistic Health Assessment
Your introduction to the foundations, principles and practices of physical, emotional, social and cultural assessment of individuals and their families.
- Patient and Family Teaching
Gain insight into expectations of teaching and learning in clinical situations through the effective concept of learning by doing.
- Development and Application of Nursing Knowledge
Debate the nature of nursing theory and its relevance to contemporary nursing practice with the emphasis on theory informing nursing practice from the time of Nightingale to the present.
- Professional Studies 1
Principles and concepts of legal and ethical accountability related to the professional role of the nurse are explored, emphasising on practitioners’ accountability across the continuum of health care.
- Professional Studies 2
Create critical awareness and understanding of the research process to become a responsible and knowledgeable consumer of nursing research. You will undertake a small research project at the end of the course and put up a research proposal.
- Management and Leadership for Nurses
Examine the management roles and the leadership skills of the registered nurse within the health care sector. Emphasis will be given to the management of change and its effects in the contemporary health care workplace.
- Pharmacology in Nursing
Build on existing pharmacological knowledge acquired through previous formal studies in nursing. The course also provides opportunities for skill enhancement in relation to drug administration.
- Learner Centred Learning 1 (Critical Reflective Journaling and Dialogue)
You will reflect on both academic theoretical knowledge base closely tied to critical practical knowledge base scenarios. The Critical Reflective Journal will be used to act as evidence of your nursing competencies.
